2023 Subaru Solterra: new specs and features for this money

Overview

The 2023 Subaru Solterra electric SUV comes standard with all-wheel drive, thanks to the platform it shares with Toyota. The compact SUV is also set to underpin the forthcoming Toyota bZ4X as well as other future models from the Japanese automaker pairs.

The Solterra has some great off-road features and plenty of standard driver assists, and it can travel between 222 and 228 miles on a single charge. Right now there aren’t many other non-luxury electric compact SUVs on the market, but that could change in the next year or two.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The Solterra has four drive modes- power, eco, normal, and X-mode. The last is for slippery or uneven terrain and works by controlling the power to each wheel. This car is powered only by electricity with two electric motors that generate 215 horsepower and 249 pound feet of torque combined.

The Solterra comes with  “Grip Control” which helps to maintain speed and balance when driving off-road. For more experienced drivers, there is also the option to deactivate stability control – meaning you’ll be able slide around dirt trails like a pro!

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The Solterra’s battery pack has a gross capacity of 72.8-kWh, as stated by Subaru. According to the company, models on 18-inch wheels have a range of 228 miles while those with 20s only get 222 miles out of it. If plugged into Level 2 charging station, the Solterra can recharge its onboard 6.6-kWh charger in nine hours; however if hooked up to a 100-kW DC fast charger, an 80% charge is available within 56 minutes instead.

Fuel-Economy and Real-World MPGe

The 2023 Solterra is expected to earn up to a combined 104 MPGe, per its EPA rating. This number will be confirmed once we have the opportunity to run it on our 75-mph fuel-economy route which tests a vehicle’s real world MPG. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Solterra has an appealing interior with a high-mounted digital gauge cluster, a large touchscreen for the infotainment system, and an elevated center console that houses what looks like a rotary shift knob. The windshield slopes steeply upwards, while the side glass is large and there is also a panoramic sunroof installed – making the cabin feel airy. Furthermore, throughout the vehicle are various attractive textures which all come together to create a fetching aesthetic. Along with different storage spots – including  a generous sized bin under the center console -the Solterra make traveling easier as there is up to 30 cubic feet of cargo space available when you fold down the rear seats flat..

What will the cost be for a 2023 Subaru Solterra?

The all-new 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric SUV has a maximum range of 228 miles and a lot of standard equipment, including AWD. The Solterra starts at $44,995 and goes up to $52K.

Is the Solterra as big as the Forester?

The Solterra looks nothing like the Forester, however. Two inches longer, and an inch wider and with a roof that’s 4 inches closer to the ground, it’s much sleeker. Its 7.3 inches of additional wheelbase also give it a roomier interior than the Forester.
